Seth Levine co-founded Foundry in 2006 and helped build it into one of the most respected venture firms in the country — nearly $4 billion under management, a fund-of-funds backing roughly 50 emerging managers, and a thesis that great companies could be built anywhere. Then he and his partners made the decision to close: no next fund, no generational succession. Instead, they chose to make room. In this episode, Seth and Brandi go deep on what that philosophy means in practice — and how it connects to the capital access problem that both of them are working to solve from different angles. They cover the data on VC concentration (60%+ of dollars in the top firms), accredited investor reform, the founding story of Pledge 1% ($3B in corporate philanthropy activated), and the full thesis behind Capital Evolution: dynamic capitalism as a practical, non-partisan middle path between the status quo and socialism. Brandi brings Seth inside the Sacral Fund I hybrid VC/PE architecture for a live pressure-test. Seth gives his honest read on LP psychology, the bucket problem, fund sizing, and how to prove out a non-traditional model. They close on regenerative capital, the give-first ethos, and why capital is never neutral — it always carries a thesis about who deserves access. This is one of the most tactical and philosophical episodes of Plunge into Prosperity to date. 🔗 LINKS: Seth Levine: https://sethlevine.com Capital Evolution: https://thecapitalevolution.com Pledge 1%: https://pledge1percent.org 📖 BOOKS MENTIONED: Capital Evolution: The New American Economy — Seth Levine & Elizabeth MacBride The New Builders — Seth Levine & Elizabeth MacBride Give First — Brad Feld

About the Guest

Seth Levine is a co-founder and partner at Foundry, the Boulder, Colorado-based venture capital firm he helped build from its 2006 launch into one of the largest venture platforms between the coasts — nearly $3.5 billion raised across eight funds, 200+ companies backed (including Fitbit, Zynga, AvidXchange, and AdMeld), and roughly 50 emerging manager venture funds seeded as LP. Foundry was built on a founding conviction that great companies and great venture firms could be built anywhere — and proved it. Seth is now a partner at Quantum Advantage Capital, his next investment platform, and co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of GoodBread, a small business lending platform reimagining how capital reaches Main Street through character-based underwriting. He is also a co-founder of Pledge 1%, the global corporate philanthropy movement that has activated nearly $3 billion to local charities across 20,000 participating companies. Seth serves as a trustee of Macalester College and advises venture funds and companies across the Middle East and Africa to promote entrepreneurship and economic development in overlooked ecosystems. He is the co-author of two books with Elizabeth MacBride: The New Builders: Face to Face with the True Future of Business and the national bestseller Capital Evolution: The New American Economy.
